Class Goals:
Our goal at Nathan Hale Middle School is to enhance student achievement in innovative ways through practical application. This class is all about students using hands-on activities and self-discovery to gain the knowledge needed throughout their education to become life-long learners. Furthermore, we will be incorporating math and reading activities in science class. Students will be responsible for writing lab reports, researching science-related concepts, designing/building models and performing many math calculations.
Class Description:
This year, students will be exploring different areas of science and we will cover a variety of topics! These topics align with the Next Generation Science Standards, which incorporate the Common Core Standards. Below, are the units that will be covered this year:

Grade Breakdown and Evaluation:
Students will be graded based upon their completion of work and performance in the following areas:
Formative (Labs, quizzes, homework, classwork) - 75%
Summative (Assessments) - 25%
Late Work Policy:
Assignments turn in complement, according to the expect ions, and on time will be eligible for full credit.
Assignments turned in after the original due date will be graded by the normal criteria, but will be docked 10% per
day late.
Late assignments will not be docked more than 50% of the original grade earned.
Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the teacher for emergencies.
Absent Policy:
Students who miss homework because of an excused absence will receive the opportunity to make up missed work. Students are given one calendar day to turn in missed assignments for each day absent. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET WORK MISSED DUE TO ILLNESS OR ABSENCE.
Daily homework will be posted on the school website before the end of each school day. Students and parents can check daily to clarify and stay current on the assigned work in EACH class.
